I attended the experimental programme

At the major international film festival

As I used to do every year

I dutifully watched

All the long silent movies

And the committed cinematic essays

With their refusal to pander

Their rigour and their resolution

But at the end

Of the major international film festival

I realized that my favourite programmes

Were not in fact any of the programmes

But actually the screen savers

And I said to myself…aha

Something significant has now changed

In my aesthetic and my life.
